Method Books
All students enrolled in the Melbourne Music Academy program study out of Method Books chosen by their teachers for each particular instrument. Teachers use some of the best Method Book brands available including Hal Leonard and Alfred’s Music. These method books ensure a structured syllabus that allows students to progress at their own pace. Teachers will also supplement the method book content with their own instructional musical content which is also just as important as it allows teachers to tailor each lesson to suit individual learning styles.
Home Playing Diaries
All students enrolled in the Melbourne Music Academy program use Home Playing Diaries. These A4 music diaries enable teachers to effectively set home playing tasks for students to practice at home each week. This ensures that students understand what their teacher wants them to practice which results in more efficient musical progress.
Each music diary has a weekly practice log section where students are able to fill out how often they’re practicing which helps students and parents monitor progress. The practice log requires students to write down how long they practice for on each day of the week. Students should be aiming for 4 Home Playing Sessions each week (15mins or more in duration). This encourages students to be accountable for their own progress, but also helps keep parents connected to what is expected of their child regarding home practice.
Parents must also sign off on their children’s practice log each week before lessons.
Communication
Parents are able to communicate with their child's teacher at any time for feedback or to express any concerns via email through Melbourne Music Academy. Parents and Teachers are also able to communicate back and forth via the student's Home Playing Diary.
Reports
All students receive a progress report from their teacher at the end of Terms 2 and 4.
Reports are emailed to parents, and can then be followed up by a phone call if requested by the parent/guardian.
